In search of a new tattoo idea

Ok – so it inevitably happens – once you get the tattoo you have wanted for a while, it means you are left feeling the need to find a new creative idea for the next ink you get.  That’s where I sit right now.  I totally want to find another great inspiration to mull over for the next year and a bit so I can get something else, just as awesome as my daughter of eve tat.

Finding a new tattoo idea is a lot like flirting.  You can get quickly (but briefly) wrapped up in ideas that you want to consider before abandoning them or putting them on the back burner.  Here are some of the other ideas I’ve flirted with over the years:

- a small Zimbabwe bird to represent my country of birth
- a small flame lily to do the same
- small nautical stars on the insides of each of my wrists

And here are some possible new inspirations:

- After watching someone get it on LA ink, Rosie the Riveter  might be good.
- If been inspired by the servitude aspect of nursing, and well, with the Christian life in general.  I’ve been considering getting the script “graceful servitude” on my wrists so that when I place my hands out to others they see that.  Hmm…I really like that idea….

Daughter of Eve – the tattoo

It’s done! Last night I had my tattoo session and found our just how lucky I was. The artist is booked for a year solid! He did me a favour and squeezed me in because he knew it was only going to be an hour of work and because I got an awesome referral. (Thanks Joel and Anne!) After a some pain, and a lot of chatting, we came up with a tattoo that’s just a little different than what I envisioned and totally awesome!

David, the artist is way cool, super relaxed and did a fantastic job!  Thanks!

Confirmation!

I’m so excited!  I got confirmation last night that I’ve got my appointment set for next week – I am getting my new tattoo!

I’ll try to get a picture up after it happens.

New tattoo on the horizon

This Sunday after church I had an awesome conversation with some of my fellow FT-ers about the wonderful world of tattooing.  I’ve got one currently and I’ve been thinking about getting a new one for a long time now.  The trouble is my last tat was done in Winchester, Virginia  when I was at camp, and it’s not like I’m heading back there anytime soon.  And it’s not like I can afford to haul my cookies to LA Ink.  

So, I did what any smart person would do.  I searched for an excellent referral.  Good thing I go to a totally awesome hipster church because I got the best one from a couple I will affectionately called “The Tattoo Twins” – they each have tons of great work – and got a name from them for their favourite artist in the city.  Of course this means he’s also one of the best and busiest.  Despite that, I sent him some details and requested an appointment, and it seems like I’ve got a super awesome consultation next Wednesday.  And I can’t wait!

I’m a little nervous too, but I figure that’s a good thing!  I’ll keep you posted on what happens!

Miami Inked

I’ve decided that I think it would be worth flying down to Miami just to get tattooed at Miami Ink. Really, those people are so talented. I should be so lucky as to make it on the Chris Garber wait list. Wow. And Kat Von D – totally tattoo babe. If only I had more guts, I would look like that.

A tattoo idea

So I’ve been surfing the net a little, checking out some potentially interesting tattoo ideas. I like this one, it would keep with my chinese character thing, and is meant to stand for Holy Son. Cool.
