A very busy weekend

September 14, 2008

Sheesh!  Just when I’ve been trying to get in to the swing of things when it comes to school work, I land with the first of three very busy weekends for me in September.

Friday night was the QPT AGM and BBQ.  It was really good to spend some time hanging out with that crew, especially since I haven’t seen quite a few of them since we did the show in June.  It was good – we had lots of beers (sweet beer) and lots of food.  Shout out to Amy and Peter for being our gracious hosts in their new and almost renovated house.  In the end, we also got some business done.  We collectively elected a new executive board, and I’m proud to say I will get to sit on it for another year.  It’s good because even if I don’t have too much time during school, I’m still helping plan events and I’m a part of the club!

Saturday was good – It started of easy, I slept in a little bit.  Then I got up and did some reading for tomorrow, before I had to get showered and head to KW for Roshan and Stephen’s engagement party.  It was a good road trip as Nick and Rachel came along too.  We hit up the party, which was expertly planned, but a tad overwhelming at the BBQ got moved inside due to the rain, and there was about 65 people there and kind of loud.  But it was good – the soon to be Chancellors and the Barons decided to sit and have a nice chat on the front porch while periodically making food and drink runs in to the house.  We left in the early evening, and made one other quick stop before heading home – ok, wait two.  The first was Value Village – a treat, seeing as the ones in Toronto are usually super picked over already by the hipster crews and such.  I managed to find two sweaters, a scarf, three pairs of earrings and a brooch for 25$.  Sweet!  Nick also found some duds, which was good.  After that our last stop was Dairy Queen before heading back.

The drive home was rainy, but good.  We were glad to be back, we Wii-ed it up a little then settled on watching Vantage Point on Rogers on Demand.  Very good movie.  It’s a little stressful at first, and a little overwhelming to constantly be changing perspectives, but I enjoyed how it played out in the end.  And really, it’s a pretty clever concept.  I recommend it.

Today was even crazier.  I got up at 7:30 to start my reading.  I managed to get quite a bit done.  Then it was showering, hitting up the bulk barn and heading to Rachel’s sis’ place where were hosted a bridal shower for her.  We had a great showing, not too many cheesy games and lots of great food.  We had girl time and Rachel got spoiled with some great gifts that I’m positive Nick will appreciate too!  ;)

Tonight was also a busy one.  David did his last sermon as senior pastor of FT.  It’s sad to see him go, but he’s got some new adventures to pursue.  Plus we’ll definitely see him and Jen around town.  They’re not moving to Siberia or anything.  It was a good celebration, and a good close to a chapter in the life of FT.

Baby steps from here.

Giving in to self pressure!

August 29, 2008

Ok – so last night after playing a few Wii Sports games after my QPT board meeting, M and I endured another moment of totally wanting a Wii Console and a Wii fit. We’re heading in to a time where we need to tighten our purse strings seeing as I’m heading back to school and everything, but at the same time this could be the best excuse to get up off the couch on a lazy evening. Seriously. And you’re actually building up a sweat. So, after much humming and hawing, M and I gave in. We went to Best Buy and both both the console and the fit. It’s been in the house since about 3:30 and set up since about 4:00. It’s about 8:00 now and we’re still playing it! Sheesh! Talk about addiction! But it’s soo much fun!

Anyone want to come over and try it?

Another fun day!

August 28, 2008

M and I have been talking about doing awesome adventuresome thing for a while now – hitting up the water park at Canada’s Wonderland. And that’s exactly what we did yesterday.

I was actually kind of worried about going up there in August, especially these days, because it’s getting pretty cold. As it turns out, it worked out pretty much for the best. On the down side, the wind was pretty cold and it got a little frosty waiting in some of the longer line-ups and only half the park was open because they were understaffed. But on the upside, we really didn’t have to wait long at all for the rides, we got to go on everything more than once and it was really fun – especially because both M and I hadn’t been there before.

Until next year – we’ll go when it’s sunny.

Being a kid again

August 26, 2008

Today was awesome. In our hopes of having a fun but not too expensive vacation together, M and I have decided to do day trip for things we’ve been meaning to do for a while now. That’s why yesterday we tackled Vaughn Mills. Tomorrow we’ve got a new adventure planned. But today was great – we decided to have some fun and head to the Science Centre.

In the end we spent about 4 and a bit hours there. It was really pretty nuts, but we had a lot of fun remember what it was like to be a kid. The last time I was at the science centre I was probably between 7 and 9 years old. So, it’s been a really, really long time. But it was fun to go back and find that I actually remembered some things. Plus the new theme exhibit is all about Mars, and it was fun to go through and see a more indepth look at what the challenges are for the Mars missions. Too much for me, but one day we might see someone go there. We’ll see!

Weeeeee!

August 13, 2008

Last night was so much fun!  M and I went to visit our friends Rachelle and Dave (who got married on July 5th) for the first time since they’ve been back from their wedding.  It was really good to see them – and we brought overall hilarity because we taught them our new favourite card/board game Bohnanza (a.k.a. THE BEAN GAME!).  We’d learned about it when we went to Rachel’s cottage earlier this summer, and we’re now passing on the joy.

After Rachelle’s successfully wiped the floor clean with all of the rest of us, Dave decided to do a little game sharing of his own, but on a different scale – it was Guitar Hero on his Wii.  M loved it, but I’m really bad at that wretched game, so I sat out.  But then we got another new experience – to try the Wii Fit.  And I’m totally in love!  I’ve been wanting one since I first saw the commercials for it, but I’m totally sold after last night.  Not only are you having fun, but you really do work your muscles.

Thanks Dave and Rachelle!

One day more

July 20, 2008

It’s one more day and the week is over – that is of course if you consider Sundays to be the last day of the week and not the first, as some do. I’ve blogged every day this week and I feel good about that. M is away, and I feel kind of weird about that. I used to live alone, but now I’m so used to having my love/roomie around that it’s strange to not have him around. But that’s ok – I’m sure I’ll keep myself busy this week.

Today was a fun day – I had to say goodbye to M at about 6 am, and I slept a little bit longer and got up around 9. I was meeting up with a friend, Cath, today to head over to a bridal shower for Trina. It turned out to be a good day – Cath and I had a fun time shopping for something that could be used between 8:00 and 10:00 – and we went for the evening, but that’s all I will say about that. ;) The afternoon was fun, and it ran until about 5:30. It was pouring rain, so I opted to be a heathen again this week and chilled at home. I wasn’t feeling the greatest anyhow, and sometimes I feel it’s just not right to go to church if you’re not feeling it. Lip service isn’t the true way to meet God.

This evening, I’ve been chilling out – mostly just watching some TV. My knee is tender and my sciatic nerve seems to be irritated, so I figure it’s good to just enjoy an evening. Tomorrow’s a start to another work week, and I want to do the best I can do and leave everything ready for the newbie. It’s the least I can do.

Holy Crap.

March 26, 2007

It’s been ages since I’ve updated my blog. Sorry faithful followers (if indeed you do exist).

Life has been pretty crazy – work has been off kilter lately as one of our beloved colleagues moved on to different pastures and we’ve been training someone new. (I’m really excited for RK, it’s just sad that he’s gone because he will be missed). This has meant some really busy weeks though at work – I’ve been doing my work as well as someone else’s tidbits so it’s been hectic. On top of which, life has been busy – lots to do. QPT stuff is picking up – auditions are coming up just after Easter. The band, dubbed Shawn Jurek and Team Power, did our gig on Saturday night, winning the Toronto Kickball Battle of the Bands. And I’ve been working on some film stuff too, doing makeup for Anton’s commercials.

And I’m sure most of this post doesn’t even make sense because I’m sick and totally out of my attention span for blogging. I’m really just doing this out of obligation, and I’m rambling.

I need to sleep, I think. And so I will.

Holiday sweaters

December 8, 2006

It’s been ages, and I’ve been busy, so excuse the neglecto-blogger once more…

Last Friday, I got invited to one of my favourite things – A THEME PARTY! Woo(t)! Yes, all it was a holiday sweater party. The object of it was to find a hideous holiday sweater, embrace it, and where it. So fun! I got the invite mid-afternoon on Friday, roped in a partner in crime (Eee) and then went to the Sally Anne to get my outfitted. I managed to find a few really great things.

The first was a very awesome light up Christmas tie. Yes, it also play Christmas music. It outfitted Enoch’s man vest. I also got a fun gold sweater I would actually wear. Then I got a kids Christmas t-shirt. I would also wear this. And last but not least the hideous sweater. A giant blue frilly/mohair sweater that’s out of the 80’s. Something borederline (’cause all girls know the object is to be outfitted for the party, yet cute at the same time). It was great. Mostly because my outfits started to outfit half the party, and also because they were useful in the small photo shoot I did to my friend Mae before I went.

Either way, the evening was a success. I had the most fun I’ve had in a while, and I cherish the memories.

In fact, it’s pulling me through another long week of work.

I can’t wait ’till Christmas.

Nuit Blanche

October 2, 2006

Last night was a crazy night. The city of Toronto was a buzz of activity, even more than usual. And when the city is like that you can’t just sit idle.

So I didn’t.

The evening started off with going to see a play called Tiny Dinamite by Abi Morgan with my friends Blake and Galen. It’s being put on by a new theatre group called Theatre Smash that some Queen’s Alum and others have put together. Very cool. I happen to know the director and producer, and my good friend Kate was the assistant director. It’s a really well done show, and it’s still playing this week. If you get a chance, go see it. The next stop with B and Galen was a good-bye party for a girl at our church who is moving away, leaving the country. It was a fairly chill night, and there was lots of great food to sample.

Next stop: Nuit Blanche. This was an all night exhibition of contemporary art sponsored by Scotiabank. There were things to see all over the city. I started out with my pals Blake and Jam on Queen St W. Then we started meeting up with Kate, Joan and Isaac. Then it was Anton, Lisa and her brother. Then it was Elaine and Jeremy and…As you can tell, the first part of our adventuring turned out to be more about trying not to lose each other instead of really getting going. So, we decided to split up and meet back on Queen W at the Camera Bar at 3am. Good plan. Jam, Blake and I then hopped in a cab and decided to head over to check out the fun at OCAD, where we met up with Mark and Jam’s cousin.

Wow, ok, so OCAD and Grange Park was covered in different activities. A giant game of Twister, games of chess, marbles and jacks. Our first stop was to see the pool of floating penguins. A very “steamy” walk through a locker room/pool area following the story of the gay penguin couple at the San Fransisco zoo. Weird. We didn’t really feel there was much to the showing, so we ploughed through, and were dissapointed to see a few measley balloon penguins floating in the pool. Here the disillusionment started.

Inside the OCAD building there were several movies playing on the wall. As we were already at a point of feeling irreverent towards the art, this is where the real fun got going! We paused at this one movie – a movie with people in a building doing weird things. One shot was of someone’s mouth approaching an eye, out of nowhere Blake said quite audibly “LICK IT!”. Ha!And guess what? The person did! Ahaha. Next we went upstairs to another movie. This one was of a picture on a wall, where the camera kept moving closer and closer. B decided to put up his umbrella and walk across the screen. Oh my gosh! Too funny. A few moments later, Jam who was sitting with me, nudge his umbrella towards me. I had my own, but I got the message. We opened them up and walked in front of the screen also. Hilarious. Blake and Mark were killing themselves behind the scenes, the funniest part being that most people thought it was part of the show!

The hilarity continued in the “Ball room”, a room filled with about 10, 000 dodge balls. It was great. We launched balls for a good 45 minutes at anyone and everyone. Such a great stress reliever and it was so fun. Especially because us crew would gang up and then try and intice someone to fight us. So good. We totally scared some people off the floor. After that B left us, and the rest of us crew headed to Camera Bar. About 20 minutes later, after fighting tooth and nail for a cab (we apparently weren’t a good enough fare!) we took the street car and got to the bar just before last call. (Thanks Jam, best beer ever!) We met up with Lisa, Kim, Enoch and Anton and chilled a little. Then at almost 5:30 am we decided to head back to OCAD to see if we could get free breakfast. But not without taking another trip to the Ball Room with Colin. So much fun!

After the venture, breakfast was attempted, but it turned out to be more sad than good, and so we all respectively drifted off home, and I hit the pillow at 7am! What a night!

In the Kay-Dub

September 29, 2006

Earlier this week, I was in KW again for work. It was really great to see my entire team back together again – we all work in three different cities, so even if we talk every day, we rarely get that face to face fun. It was great. We chatted lots, and worked lots. And we also took the time to have a very trash talked filled game of pool. Ha! So fun! I’ll never forget Chugosh’s face when I landed a fluke fancy shot after missing every other ball!

The venture was also good because I got to stay with Mum and Dad for a few day – Mum gave me a great red/black lamp for my birthday – perfect for the living room. We also had a good friend of the family visiting from England, and I didn’t think I was going to get a chance to see her. Very cool.

The only downside? In Waterloo I swear all you do it sit and eat. I ate so much that I can’t help but think I’m glad I don’t have to live through what we’ve affectionately “Watermoo Days” that often.
